Author Guidelines
Please read these guidelines before submitting. Manuscripts that do not follow them are returned to the authors before review.
Formatting
There is no required template. Authors may submit in their own formatting, provided the manuscript is clear, complete and easy to review. Submit the manuscript as a Word or PDF file.
- Structure
- Title, abstract, keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results and discussion, conclusion, declarations and references. Review articles may use section headings suited to their subject.
- Abstract
- 150–250 words, stating the problem, approach, principal results and significance. No citations.
- Keywords
- Four to six keywords.
- Figures and tables
- Placed within the manuscript at the point where they are first cited, not collected at the end. Number them in order of citation and give each a caption. Images should be at least 300 dpi.
- Equations
- Numbered consecutively, with every symbol defined on first use.
Preparing for Double-Blind Review
NanoScyentist uses double-blind peer review, so the manuscript must not reveal who the authors are. Submit two separate files:
- Anonymised manuscript — with all author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, funding details and self-identifying statements removed. Cite your own earlier work in the third person, as you would anyone else's. Remove author names from the file's document properties.
- Title page — the title, all authors' names, affiliations and email addresses, the corresponding author, acknowledgements, funding details, and the conflict of interest statement.
References
Number references in order of first citation using bracketed numerals, [1], [2]. Every reference must be followed by its DOI or a direct website link to the exact source cited. Links to a journal homepage, publisher front page or search result are not accepted.
Declarations
Each submission must include:
- Conflict of interest — any relevant financial or personal relationship, or a statement that none exists (on the title page).
- Author contributions — the contribution of each named author (on the title page).
- Declared use of AI — a description of any AI tools used and what they were used for, entered in the submission form. See the Use of AI policy.
- Ethics approval — where the work involves human participants or animals.
Submission
Submit through the online submission form, uploading the anonymised manuscript and title page as separate files, each no larger than 5 MB. The form asks for full details of every author, a description of any use of AI tools, a cover letter, and three suggested reviewers — each from a different institution, and none from any author’s institution. A manuscript reference number is shown on submission; quote it in all correspondence.
Publication Charges
There is no submission fee, and no charge for manuscripts that are not accepted. An Article Publication Charge (APC) applies only after acceptance, based on the World Bank income classification of the corresponding author's country:
| High-income countries | USD 100 |
|---|---|
| Middle-income countries | USD 50 |
| Low-income countries | USD 30 |
Full terms are in the Article Publication Charges policy.
After Submission
Revised manuscripts are sent as a reply to the decision email rather than as a new submission. The stages and timelines of review are set out in the Peer Review Policy.
